The Battle of the Somme, an official war office film, was produced in 1916 primarily to increase morale in the civilian population. Millions went to see it to learn about the war, but mostly in the hope that they might catch a glimpse of a member of their family.
This showing will be staged as a cinematographic exhibition would have been back in 1916, with a commentary on what was happening at the front and also what was going on in Nottinghamshire in 1916 and 1917. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions during and after the showing.
