To keep the shop open, we need volunteers who can give just two hours to manning a shift. The tasks are not onerous. The role mostly involves smiling, being helpful and ringing purchases through the till. You get full training on all the shops systems such as opening and closing, checking temperature of the chiller and freezers, using the till and the debit card machine and working the aircon. It’s a great way to meet people too. And you don’t have to do it alone – perhaps you’ve got a friend or a family member who’d like to share the shift with you?
If you can’t commit to a regular shift, you can go on the roster of volunteers who we draw from to man the shop on occasions where a regular volunteer is not available. For more information on being a volunteer please contact Jackie Valentine at the shop on Mondays 11am – 1pm on 01636 525151 or email email@example.com.
Or maybe you have skills such as business acumen, team leadership, finance or admin skills that would be ideal for a role on the management team. The community shop is registered as an Industrial and Provident Society (IPS) which means we have to have a core management team to oversee the running of the shop. We are in need of a new Chair and Secretary for 2013 and we also welcome team members who can offer their skills without necessarily taking a management position. If you are interested and want to know more please contact our Acting Secretary Sue Clayton firstname.lastname@example.org. While we think it is good for the management team to have done at least one or two stints in the shop to get a feel for how it works, it’s not necessary to be a regular volunteer behind the counter.
Come and join us and help keep your community shop open and running smoothly.
